Reusable Packaging Must Come Back: hey circle’s IT Solution Ensures Returns

hey circle enables businesses to reduce waste and CO2 emissions with reusable shipping packaging. Customers don’t need to pay a deposit upfront for the reusable packaging. Instead, they are only charged if the packaging isn’t returned within the specified time frame.


When Should You Implement the hey circle IT Solution?

The hey circle packaging can be used without IT integration in some cases. However, we recommend using the IT system when shipping to B2C customers where there isn’t a closed-loop system in place. This is particularly relevant when customers don’t return items but still need to send back the packaging.

The strong incentive for returning the packaging on time is that customers are charged for it if not returned. There is no upfront deposit required.

How to Install and Use the hey circle IT Integration for Retailers:

For optional shipping with reusable packaging, we offer a ready-to-use frontend component. Retailers can select target countries for reusable shipping, optimize return pricing, configure loan periods and cloud connections, and create a blacklist of products unsuitable for reusable packaging.

Customer Journey with the hey circle IT Integration

Once the reusable option is integrated into your shop, customers can choose to have their order shipped in hey circle’s packaging at checkout. They agree to return the packaging on time or pay for it. Customer data is then sent to the hey circle cloud.

  1. The order is packed in the warehouse as usual, and every reusable box or bag includes a return label and security seal.

  2. hey circle’s cloud system sends a return reminder to the customer.

  3. The customer returns the packaging either with the product (sealed) or empty (folded).

  4. If the packaging isn’t returned within the specified period, hey circle charges the customer.

Our goal: Achieving a 98% return rate for 50 reuse cycles – maximizing environmental impact!

New feature: hey circle detects likely returns

The hey circle IT solution can detect orders that are likely to be (partially) returned. Triggers include:

  • Identical products in different colors

  • Identical products in different sizes

  • Cart values of specific amounts

Retailers can choose to offer reusable packaging only in cases where high return probabilities exist. This saves costs by avoiding empty returns and additional return fees.


Complete Flexibility: Choose Reusable or Single-Use Packaging

With the hey circle IT solution, online retailers can either fully switch to reusable packaging or let customers choose between single-use and reusable packaging at checkout. hey circle ensures that the bags and boxes are returned on time, handling the billing for unreturned items.
